Getting Started
MAO Workforce is a Filipino HR and payroll platform built for small and medium businesses. It handles scheduling, attendance tracking, payroll computation (SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, and withholding tax), and government compliance reports — all in one place.
Go to portal.maoworkforce.com and click Create Account. Enter your business name, email, and password. You'll start on the Free plan — no credit card required.
Go to Workforce → Employees and click + Add Employee. Fill in name, employee code, branch, role, and salary details. You can also invite them by email to access the Employee Self-Service portal.
Yes. Add your existing employees and their salary details manually. For help migrating a large team, email hello@maoworkforce.com and we'll assist.
The MAO portal is fully mobile-responsive and works in any browser. We also offer MAO Kiosk, a dedicated tablet app for employees to clock in and out without a personal device.
Running Your First Payroll
You need 5 things set up first:
- At least one active employee with an hourly rate
- A payroll cutoff period covering the dates you want to pay
- Shift assignments for your employees in that period
- Attendance logs (clock-in/out records) within the cutoff
- Attendance summaries computed for those logs (happens automatically nightly, or you can trigger it manually via Recompute Summaries)
A cutoff is the date range for a payroll period — e.g. June 1–15. MAO uses cutoffs to know which attendance records to include in each run. You set these up under Payroll → Cutoffs before generating a run.
This usually means one of three things:
- No shift assignments exist for that cutoff period
- Attendance summaries haven't been computed yet (go to Attendance → Summaries and click Recompute)
- The employee has no attendance logs in that period
Set up a cutoff → Employees clock in/out → Recompute attendance summaries → Go to Payroll → Runs & Releases → New Run → Select cutoff → Generate Draft → Review any exceptions → Approve → Release payslips.
Yes — when creating a new run, set the Scope to Selected Employees and pick who you want to include.
Exceptions flag unusual attendance like late clock-ins, overtime, or early outs that need HR review before payroll is finalized. You can approve, dismiss, or adjust them under Attendance → Exceptions before approving a payroll run.
A cutoff period defines the date range for a payroll cycle — for example, June 28 to July 4. MAO uses cutoffs to know which attendance records to pull when computing a payroll run. Every payroll run must be linked to a cutoff period.
Cutoff Periods shows your list of actual payroll periods — past, current, and upcoming — each with a status (Draft, Open, or Closed). Schedule Template is where you configure the rules for auto-generating cutoffs, like whether you pay weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly, and what day payouts fall on. Set up your Schedule Template first, then cutoffs are generated automatically from it.
Draft means the cutoff exists but isn't active yet. Open means it's the current active period — employees are clocking in and attendance is being tracked against it. Closed means the period is done and payroll has been processed for it.
Not if you have a Schedule Template set up. MAO auto-generates upcoming cutoffs based on your template. You only need to create them manually if you have a one-off special period or if you haven't set up a template yet.
Payroll
MAO supports weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly payroll cutoffs. Each cutoff can be customized with its own start and end dates.
MAO pulls each employee's attendance for the cutoff and computes regular hours, overtime, night differential, late deductions, holiday pay, allowances, and all statutory deductions — producing a payslip per employee that you review before releasing.
Yes. After generating a draft you can review each payslip, make manual adjustments, and re-generate before approving and releasing.
Allowances are set per employee. Monthly allowances pay once a month; semi-monthly allowances split in half and pay twice. Allowances can be taxable or non-taxable.
Yes. MAO supports special payroll runs for 13th month pay, bonuses, and other one-time payouts, separate from your regular cycle.
Attendance
Via MAO Kiosk (a shared tablet using employee code, PIN, or QR) or the Employee Self-Service portal from any browser on their phone or computer.
The log stays Open until a clock-out is recorded. Employees submit a Correction Request, which an HR admin approves — then payroll hours recompute.
Yes. HR admins and branch managers can add, edit, or delete records from Attendance → Logs.
MAO detects pre- and post-shift overtime automatically from the employee's schedule. It appears in Attendance → Exceptions and must be approved before counting in payroll.
Night differential covers hours worked between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM, earning an extra 10% under Philippine labor law. MAO computes ND hours automatically.
Compliance
Yes. MAO uses the current contribution tables and computes both employee and employer shares during payroll generation. Tables are updated when government rates change.
Yes, using the BIR TRAIN Law table based on each employee's gross taxable income. Note: MAO provides computation assistance — you remain responsible for filing and remittance to BIR.
Yes. MAO generates statutory reports for SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, and withholding tax per payroll period, which you can use to prepare your remittance forms.
Yes. Run a special payroll for 13th month pay — MAO computes it from each employee's basic salary and months of service within the calendar year.
Managing Employees

Go to Workforce → Employees, open the profile, and click Invite to Portal. They'll get an email link to set up their account.
